There is no finer beginning for anyone wanting to make their first mark on the world of Pet Grooming than the AAA professional pet grooming programme. It is the ultimate in modern pet grooming education. Every scissoring and colouring technique that underpins the AAA philosophy, will be taught in detail to you. You will possess the newest, most up-to-date knowledge from the latest generation of qualified pet grooming instructors.

The course is divided into three in-depth stages covering all of the subjects needed to provide you with a fast track to pet grooming success. The nature and content of each stage develops as you progress through the course, but some things will remain constant; personal guidance and mentoring from an AAA instructors throughout all work sessions; theory and practical assignments to assess your progress at regular intervals.

What’s more, to help you become a more artistic groomer, we have integrated a Creative segment into our programme. We believe it is essential to understand more about the structures of both inner and outer lines of the dog body form. Through the arts segment, you will learn how to unleash your innate creativity and merge it with your understanding of the canine form to create an artistic grooming style that is uniquely you!

Module One: Foundations of Pet Grooming

This module covers the essential skills and knowledge required to begin a successful pet grooming career. It establishes the foundation for understanding the tools, techniques, and safety protocols used in grooming.

Theory

• Identify a dog's basic grooming requirements.
• Understand canine anatomy, including muscle structure and topographical anatomy.
• Recognize common signs of illness in dogs.
• Identify grooming tools and equipment and their functions.
• Learn and apply grooming safety protocols.
• Basic first aid for pets.
• Recognize breed classifications for FCI groups 1 to 5.

Practical

• Perform essential grooming tasks, including ear and nail care, de-shedding, bathing, and drying.
• Master basic handling techniques.
• Demonstrate scissoring techniques, including cutting straight lines, level top lines, and round shapes.

Creative

• Create poodle lamb clip drawings from various perspectives (side, rear, front, and top profiles).

Module Two: Advanced Grooming Techniques and Breed Standards

This module expands on scissoring and clipping techniques, with a focus on adhering to breed-specific grooming standards. Students will further develop their artistic abilities through three-dimensional visualizations.

Theory

• Identify and understand common canine health issues.
• Study breed profiles and grooming standards for Poodles, Maltese, Shih Tzus, Pomeranians, and other breeds.
• Recognize breed classifications for FCI groups 6 to 10.
• Analyze Terrier and wire-coated breed grooming standards.

Practical

• Develop clipping techniques for paw pads and sanitary areas.
• Perform medical clips and full poodle lamb clips on practice models.
• Groom long-coated breeds like Shih Tzus and Maltese in puppy trims, and double-coated breeds like Pomeranians and Shelties in standard and summer trims.
• Groom sporting breeds like American and English Cocker Spaniels.

Creative

• Practice foam cutting techniques, including creating round balls and lamb clips.

Module Three: Creative Mastery and Competency Preparation

The final module is designed to refine advanced grooming skills and emphasize creativity. Students will also receive comprehensive preparation for their final competency test.

• Understand animal welfare standards in grooming environments.
• Recognize canine behavior and body language.
• Identify cat, rabbit, and guinea pig breeds.
• Demonstrate customer service skills, addressing customer needs and requests.
• Explore additional pet grooming services and product offerings.

Practical

• Perform poodle face and feet clipping techniques.
• Complete grooming tasks for long-legged and short-legged terriers, such as Miniature Schnauzers, Wire Fox Terriers, West Highland Terriers, and Scottish Terriers.
• Execute an Asian fusion clip.
• Groom cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs.

• Demonstrate advanced creative grooming techniques, including coloring and artistic styling.
